Symposium "Signals from the Invisible"

On the occasion of their 10th anniversary, the Spemann Graduate School of Biology and Medicine (SGBM) and the Center for Biological Signal Studies (BIOSS) are organizing a symposium on current research within the nano-scale compartments of signaling processes entitled "Signals from the Invisible - Nanoscale Compartimentation of Signaling Processes in Biology and Medicine".

The focus of research at BIOSS is the initiation and promotion of a dialectical process between scientists using analytical (dissecting) and synthetic (reconstruction) approaches in signaling research. Since most signaling processes in subcellular compartments occur at dimensions that are below the diffraction limit of visible light of 250 nanometers, the relevant information is difficult to access.

In order to better identify and control these cellular signaling processes, BIOSS scientists work together in the field of biology, medicine and engineering under the principle of the iterative process "From Analysis to Synthesis to Better Analysis", developing tools for synthetic biology and innovative Super –resolution-techniques. This allows the development of novel devices and drugs for the effective treatment of human diseases such as cancer.'

The Symposium aims to unite signal scientists from all over the world who use innovative techniques in their studies on nanoscale signaling processes. An international audience as well as scientists from Eucor - The European Campus are therefore expressly welcome.
