Archaeological excavations at Biesheim
The Oedenburg excavation, started in 1998, covering more than 200 hectares at Biesheim in the Upper Rhine region, is one of the biggest archaeological sites in Alsace and the plain of the Upper Rhine. The excavations have brought to light an early military phase from the beginning of Roman times, huge civic buildings, a roadside prateorium from the end of the Constantine era and a fortification from the Valentinian era.
