Thank you for all your work, President Schiewer!

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Jochen Schiewer will end his term of office as President of Eucor – The European Campus on October 1, 2020. He will return to his professorship for German Medieval Studies after his time as Rector at the University of Freiburg.

Schiewer had been President of Eucor – The European Campus since 2013 and represented the University alliance with extraordinary dedication. The seven years of his presidency were characterized by European values, balancing interests and a great deal of perseverance. Under his leadership, the interconnection among the universities in the Upper Rhine region accelerated greatly. Founding the European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) in 2015, which also acts as the basis for today’s cooperation among the universities, is a clear example of his success. Today, thanks to its European legal entity, a clear governance structure, the joint strategic plan, its own funding instrument “Seed Money” and its success in jointly raising third-party funds, the University alliance is a much sought-after model for European university cooperation.

On an interim basis Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Andrea Schenker-Wicki, Rector at the University of Basel, will take over the official duties in her function as Deputy President of the alliance.
