The neurophysiology project is under the direction of the University of Basel and will be implemented in cooperation with the University of Freiburg. The researchers are investigating the cellular causes of cognitive disorders in Down’s syndrome or trisomy 21. The central question is to what extent the altered activity of certain inhibitory nerve cells in the brain contributes causally to the disorders and whether a targeted modification of their excitability can reduce cognitive impairments. The project is supported by Eucor – The European Campus with “Seed Money” within the funding line “Research and Innovation.”
